experience and a basic understanding of
dance vocabulary. It’s a great place to start if you are coming
back to dance. The class
explores a full understanding of the spine, expanded vocabulary,
alignment, and

Description: (9/7-10/26)
This open level class focuses on modern/postmodern dance skills,
forms, and somatic practices. We will perform juicy dynamic warm-ups,
practice moving into and out of the floor, learn movement phrases,
improvise, and work dynamic alignment, strength and flexibility.
Influenced by modern release technique, Bartenieff Fundamentals,
Laban Effort Shape theory, Butoh, yoga and experiential anatomy.
Classes will be structured to: awaken the body guided by breath
and imagery; cultivate a kinesthetic awareness of skeletal/muscular
alignment, & more.

Intermediate modern is a challenging class
for dancers with experience. The class
focuses on a deep understanding of the body and incorporates ideas
from Limon,
Cunningham and Graham techniques. Dancers will move through a warm-up
that builds
strength and clarifies alignment followed by extended phrases which
are rhythmically
and physically challenging. The class also focuses on performance
quality, focus and
presence. Generous atmosphere and live music.

Classes focus on developing technical,
theatrical performers and build strong, musical and organic movers.
Influences range from Bill Evans/ Limon-based modern, Gerri Houlihan,
Laban Effort Shape & various Pilates and Evan’s-based
floor work. Included will be Modern floor barre, standing center
barre, full, contemporary movement & new choreographic ideas.
Attention to working with challenging rhythms in order to build
strong musicality will be stressed as well as attention to movement
that builds virtuosity of technique and creative self-expression.

Modern dance provides a multitude of movement
possibilities for the human body and allows each dancer to connect
with the earth, the music, and fellow dancers in the class. Although
the field and styles of modern dance are ever changing, this course
covers the foundation of modern dance technique in a studio setting
through a variety of exercises, phrases, improvisations, and movement
combinations that allow the dancer to become comfortable moving
the body in new and exciting ways. No prior experience necessary.
