Veteran choreographer Danny Swain's inaugural
concert featuring new and old work will premiere in April 4th &
5th 8PM, 2008 at Green Street Studios.
$15 general, $12 seniors, student, BDA
Swain, is known locally for his athletic style
and eclectic works, and has been professionally choreographing,
performing and teaching for ten years. Swain is in the process of
establishing his own non-profit, Danny Swain Dance Company, which
will allow him greater artistic autonomy in producing cutting edge
modern dance. Goals for the company include creating and debuting
more new work in bigger performance venues, as well as a variety
of community outreach initiatives. "Gaining non-profit status
will bring innovative modern dance to a broader audience. We will
have access to much greater funding opportunities; and, as a result,
will be able to share our work more frequently and in more places
than ever before," said Swain.
Swain's first big concert on April 4 and 5 at
Green Street Studios will debut new work, as well as present a retrospective
of dance he created over the past decade. Included is a reworking
his 1997 piece, 3,000 Miles to Blue. In it, Swain includes a powerful
male duet followed by an explosive onslaught of ten lithe female
performers. For this piece, he has collaborated with local musician/composer
Jane Wang to create an original score that she will perform live.
ABOUT DANNY SWAIN DANCE COMPANY: Established

is to create and perform new, original and challenging choreography
of the highest standard in collaboration with other artists, such
as composers and designers; to create work that is innovative and
intellectually stimulating, while remaining accessible and entertaining
